talking like the big kids do

one of my friends gave this book as a gift to her nephew. while playing his video game he says, "shh, this part is difficult. i need to concentrate." he's four years old.

Jamie Lee Curtis wrote this book, Big Words for Little People, with the idea in mind to teach "little people" how to speak like "big people." words like respect, patience, cooperate, privacy, and considerate not only enhance the children's vocabulary, but i think could also serve as a means of instilling those values for future application. that's some good reading!

it's been a while, but happy 2009! i'm back [;

to start off, here's every stylista's ultimate limited edition 2009 calendar, courtesy of W Hotels. each month spotlights the muses of 12 designers - including (my fave) Diane von Furstenberg, the boys of Rag & Bone, and Victoria Bartlett.

in the spirit of design, the calendar mocks a sketchbook. it even has a few blank sketch pages and a place to hold your pencil. get drawing!

the giving tree

i love this book. single poem, great story. one of my favorites from shel silverstein. i got the 35th anniversary special edition from barnes and noble today (:

the secret life of bees

one of the few movies that lives up to its good book (remember my blog about how most books are so much better than their movie counterparts?). this one definitely made me cry, as did the book. and i loved every single character - the casting was exceptional. you might want to watch it...scratch that, i highly recommend that you do!


my favorite part, brought me back to the old days. lol. "baby, i need your loving, got to have all your loving, baby i need your loving, got to have all your loving." he was such a cutie!

from pages to pictures

the book is a worthy read, which explains its status as a New York Times Bestseller. and with such an amazing cast (Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, and Queen Latifa), i'm anticipating the movie to be just as meritorious.

p.s. ever notice how New York Times Bestsellers, or books in general, have been translated into movies lately? i.e. Nights in Rodanthe, The Kite Runner, No Country for Old Men, I Am Legend, The Notebook, The Devil Wears Prada, In Her Shoes, Love in the Time of Cholera, Fight Club, etc.

being in the top 3 of my favorite books, i'd love to see The Alchemist made into a movie. and they already made the movie for Tuesdays with Morrie, but it'd be interesting to see if they could update it (with Al Pacino as Morrie lol).
