Scientists have been performing studies suggesting that the girth of an individual's waist is correlated to the likelihood of contracting several health issues, including heart attacks, diabetes, cancer, and dementia. Apparently, waist size can provides more insight to the status of our health than our weight value does.
The basic idea of this concept is that "Having a large waist means you are more likely to have fat around your heart, liver and even ordinary muscles, and it signals that you should be screened for other health problems, like insulin resistance and high cholesterol."
So for all you weight-worry-warts, start busting out your tape measures and stop obsessing over the numbers on your scale!
